This year the 2008 National Weekend will take place at Peebles Hotel Hydro in Peebles. Over the years Peebles Hydro has changed and evolved to meet the needs of modern lifestyles, whilst still keeping all its traditional values.
It first opened in 1881 as Peebles Hydropathic Company offering a range of water cures. In July 1905 a fire destroyed the original building and 2 years later re-opened as the magnificent building it is today. Located in the Tweed Valley surrounded by 30 beautiful acres, the hotel has 129 bedrooms with something to suite every need. Facilities include magnificent Dining Room and the award wining Lazels bistro, a fully equipped gym, spacious heated swimming pool and a range of excellent indoor and outdoor activities.
The border town of Peebles straddles the River Tweed and is only 23 miles from the cultured city of Edinburgh. Peebles motto is ‘Against the stream they multiply’ due to the world famous salmon fishing river, although there are many other treasures for visitors to see. The town has something for everyone and was ranked Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland for its range of independent shops and timeless High Street. Tourist attractions include Biggar Puppet Theatre (visit Friday), Traquair House, Scotland’s oldest inhabited house and Kailzie Gardens.
As well as its regular series of meetings, the National Weekend offers entertainment and social activity, to include a Saturday workshop, an excursion to Biggar Puppet Theatre, and is an excellent opportunity to network with other amateur theatre enthusiasts.
