AMDRAM NETWORK - CASTING CALL
ROLE: Voice of Henry VIII
FILM: Mary Tudor - Victim of History?
FILM DETAILS: 90 minute docu-drama about the life of Mary Tudor and how she became the queen everyone hated.
ROLE DESCRIPTION: The first part of the film deals with the background and early life of Mary I. In this part of the film, her father, Henry VIII, features heavily as he disbands the church in order to divorce Mary's mother.
This is an important role in the film as Henry was a loved father figure and yet he was also responsible for the destruction of the religion Mary came to live her life by. The role will involve quite a bit of acting, with an opportunity to ad-lib. There will also be a lot of time to work with the director during the recording to get the right feel for the part, should any applicants feel this would help them. The role also involves some lip-synching to an actor who has already filmed the parts (permission has been granted by the actor to dub his voice).
The applicant must have the ability to convey a fearsome, powerful and sometimes tender voice. We are looking for someone who sounds roughly of the right age (between 40-60) and who can be versatile. The applicant should ideally have a strong, booming/resonant voice (baritone/bass) and the ability to talk in a regal or RP accent. Cliched examples of this type of voice would be in the style of Brian Blessed or John Rhys-Davies, but we do want someone unique and not just a 'soundalike'.
This is a paid role with travel expenses and will take approximately 1½ - 3 hours to film at our base in South East London/Kent. Full details are available on request via email.
APPLYING:
Applications will ideally be by email with attachments of auditions/voice-clips or any other showreels. Lines are available on request should you wish to read for the part.
If you have any problems at all, such as not being able to email a sample, please email me at Tvchoiceactors@aol.com and I can give you an address to send cassettes or CDs to - or you can just arrange an audition and come and meet us.

LICENSING ACT 2003
There is an online petition on the Number 10 website concerning 'music and dance' and the Licensing Act. Although it doesn't mention theatre or amateur dramatics, nonetheless NODA considers it would be worth signing. There are currently about 3,100 signatures: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/licensing/
A Register of Local Authority Licensed Public Spaces in England and Wales has been put together by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. The idea is make it easier to stage live performances and events in public spaces, particularly to help travelling performers locate venues. While event organisers won't need to apply for a new premises licence or give a temporary event notice themselves, they will still need to get the permission of the relevant local authority. Note that not all local authorities have provided information yet. The Register is at www.culture.gov.uk
The Independent Licensing Fees Review Panel was commissioned to look at the Licensing Act 2003 fees to ensure they were set at the right level for licensees and local councils. Following a close examination of the fees and local authority spending during the first eighteen months of the new regime, the panel has found that local authorities will have spent more than they received in licensing fees during the first three years. It also found that fee payers incurred higher costs than anticipated.
The panel also made a number of recommendations to streamline the process. These include recommendations that:
• all local authorities should accept electronic applications; • fees for exceptionally large events, such as music festivals and country fairs, should be set locally; • the application forms and processes should be simplified

CALLING ALL AM DRAM COMPANIES!
ITV is looking for an Am Dram groups to mentor a comedian for a new prime-time show. Is your group made up of amazing extrovert characters, who live, eat and breathe Am Dram 365 days of the year? Do you think your company has the skills to teach a comedian everything there is to know about the Am Dram world in a week? If you’re up for the challenge, then please get in touch, telling us about your company and why you think you fit the bill.
I am the Assistant Producer working on a new series in which comedians spend a week hanging out and working with interesting groups of people within Great Britain and then performing a gig for the people they have been working with at the end. These programmes will be 6 x 30 mins and will be transmitting on ITV at 10pm.
One of the worlds in which we would love to see our comedian connect with is an Am Dram group. Ideally we’re looking for an Am Dram group who have amazing extrovert characters who live, eat and breathe the Am Dram world 365 days of the year, every year.
Maybe it could be an Am Dram company from a rural community where every member of the village takes part in their annual Am Dram performance? Or maybe it could be an Am Dram company run by a family whose family has been involved in the society for over 4 generations?
The idea is that one member from the society would mentor the comedian through out the week and help them learn everything there is to know about the Am Dram group. ITV are keen that each comedian goes on a bit of a journey and immerse themselves in the world they’ve entered, and at the end of the week we’ll see what they’ve learnt when they do their stand up gig.
The filmed stand up routine could be incorporated into one of your events which might be quite a nice draw for your attendees. Anyway, these are all ideas which could be discussed if you are potentially interested in being involved.
Please let me know if you are interested in having a preliminary phone chat to obtain more information.

PLAYS AND MUSICALS
Professional German Tour for ‘Princess Diana, the musical’ ---------------------------------------------------------- Grossstadt Entertainment Ltd will be touring Germany in 2008 with the European Premiere of our superb new 11m, 13f, 5m/f musical that tells the turbulent story of Charles and Diana. It focuses on their courtship; their marriage and her relationship with her children and the rest of the Royal Family. The musical culminates with their divorce, but ends at the time of her funeral. As the musical progresses it portrays the evolution of the young Diana into the intelligent mature woman, who becomes one of the most famous women in the world, but fails to find the love she needed. UK rights are available, together now with a Financial Support package for the first few productions. Ask for a free Cast Recording CD.
Silent Running (3m, 1f) : a two-act black comedy ------------------------------------------------ Harry Falcon runs his entertainment agency like he runs his life - on a downward spiral. His grip on both is weakening as each grip of the bottle of scotch strengthens its hold on him. Befriended by one of his female acts, he tries to rekindle his emotional side, but it is too late; she is spoken for, and his body and mind are way past redemption.
Free And Easy (5m, 4f) : a two-act light comedy play with music --------------------------------------------------------------- Enjoy a real nostalgia treat with this gently humorous, hugely entertaining, piece of escapism. Set to a backdrop of over fifteen hits of the 50s and 60's, we follow the trials and tribulations of Eric Dobbins, the dryly nonchalant publican, and his matriarchal wife, Iris (a stereotypical landlady), as they, their staff and their regulars fight to save the pub from the unscrupulous hands of the brewery manager who sees it as a potential lap-dancing venue. Requires a cast of competent singers and a three-piece band.
Lucy In The Sky (4f) : a one-act drama -------------------------------------- Winner - BEST ONE ACT PLAY (All Female Cast), Drama Association of Wales Annual Competition 2002. Three women seek shelter in an inner city hostel for the homeless. On this cold winter night, each has a different reason for being there. Two of them are having to come to terms with recent events which have shattered their lives. The other cannot forget her failing because once a year for fifty years she has been vividly reminded.

ONLINE VIDEO PROJECT
We are approaching NODA in the hope that one of your members would be interested in being featured in an online video we are planning. This is being produced to promote the use of promotional video broadcasting on the web and corporate intranets. The project will target business organisations, offering a medium through which management can personally communicate a range of messages to both internal and external audiences, from financial reports to company health & safety policy.
For this purpose, we would be looking to audition a person that could play the role of a senior management executive. He/she would require good presentational skills and provide a characterisation that a business audience could easily identify with and find sympathetic. The appearance would not carry more than a nominal fee to cover expenses, but would be an interesting part that would offer exposure to the talent of your member and a positive addition to their dramatic CV.

The event is scheduled for late February or early March in Bristol (provisionally at either the Council House or The Watershed). The purpose of the event is to discuss the role of both sectors in the development of arts in local communities, and to demonstrate how both sectors are working effectively to support the national participation agenda.
