NORTH EAST WEEKEND APRIL 2007
From the 27th to the 29th April 2007 The North East Weekend 2007 is in Scarborough again. The most important event of the Weekend is, of course, the Annual General Meeting on the Saturday afternoon, but as always, we have a full programme of events to keep everyone occupied from Friday lunch time to Sunday lunchtime. The weekend starts on Friday afternoon with a Quiz and the very well past-it Past President Reg Vinnicombe as our congenial Quizmaster, and as usual there will be Ten Pin Bowling. In the evening there is the Banquet for 662 delegates, followed by two Cabarets. As the Spa Complex Theatre is not large enough to seat ALL delegates, we have arranged a Floor Show type cabaret ‘Songs and Snatches” with Miscellany and we are delighted to welcome York Light Opera Company back with “Red, Hot & Cole”. To round off the evening, we have a Sing Song with Alan Makinson at the piano and Councillor Chris as the “singing MC”. Saturday morning includes four workshops – “Strictly Ballroom for Strictly All”, a Ballroom Dancing Workshop with Gary Foster and Diane Haywood. “Dance Will Rock You!” a Dance Workshop with Louise Denison for Experienced Dancers only, “The Roar of the Greasepaint” – an up to date guide to stage makeup with Christine Castle, and “A is for Audition” a workshop covering the Do’s and Don’ts of the Audition process with John Cumberlidge. Saturday evening, sees the two shows being performed again, then we welcome back Todd Miller and the Joe Loss Orchestra and Singing Stars, who have become very much part of our Weekend. Last year Todd asked the several hundred dancers on the Grand Hall floor “Which do you prefer – Scarborough or Bridlington?” He then answered his own question “I don’t care – it’s the people that matter”. The Weekend ends on Sunday morning with our Guest Speaker – and as last year you will have to be there to find out who it is!
