COMPLETE THE NODA SURVEY AND YOU COULD WIN £100!

Five years on from its last national survey in 2002, the time is right for another major survey of the issues affecting our members and the amateur theatre sector. It is only by having this detailed information that NODA can tell if it is doing a good job for its members, and represent your interests to government departments, local authorities and national and regional funding agencies.

The first part of this survey asks for your opinion on the services provided by NODA, to help us improve and grow over the coming years.

Please complete the survey by clicking here The closing date is 20 September. All surveys returned will be entered into a prize draw, to be drawn at the Association's AGM on 29th September.

                           NODA NATIONAL WEEKEND

This year’s National Weekend takes place at the Palace Hotel in Buxton from 28 to 30 September. Built in 1868, the Paramount Palace Hotel's magnificent exterior was designed by Henry Currey, architect to the Duke of Devonshire. It’s a much-loved focal point of Buxton’s culture and where everyone wants to stay when they are in town. They used to call this wonderful part of the world the English Switzerland, so immerse yourself in the beautiful scenery, rolling dales and countryside.

Right in the heart of Buxton, the hotel has 122 bedrooms, including bedrooms suitable for wheelchair access. Facilities include exquisite dining in the Dovedale Restaurant and a wide-ranging Bodysense Health & Leisure Club with excellent beauty facilities.

The National Weekend, as well as its regular series of meetings, cabarets and social activity, will include an excursion to Chatsworth and workshops, and will be an excellent opportunity to network with other amateur theatre enthusiasts from across the country. Book online at www.noda.org.uk.

‘Up for Arts?’ is the name of Voluntary Arts England’s forthcoming participation campaign running in partnership with the Community Channel with events happening in various parts of the country this summer.

The campaign is built around the following main components:

• Showcase the many voluntary arts opportunities that exist

To keep up to date on things that are happening and how you can get involved keep an eye on the dedicated section of our website www.vaengland.org.uk/artsandcrafts

And if you are planning a voluntary or amateur arts or crafts event any where in the country at the end of July / beginning of August then send us more information and we will try to publicise it as part of Up for Arts? campaign. Perhaps you would like organise an event but need some inspiration of things that you could do. In either event send your emails to brian@vaengland.org.uk

Wild and wacky facts about the world of amateur arts
                                         and crafts

What are the strangest facts about the world of amateur arts and crafts? Voluntary Arts England aims to find out. Have you got a unique story to tell– something weird and wonderful that you feel no other group can lay claim to?

Perhaps your group:
• has the longest name of any other group in the country?
• meets in the most unusual place?
• has broken a world record?
• meets at the most northerly point in the country?
• has been running for longer than any other group?
• performs in the smallest theatre?
• revived an art or craft form no longer practised?
• has five different generations all members of the same group?
• has twinned with a group from another country?
• have had a famous person go through your ranks
• have held the loudest / quietest concert

Tell us in no more than 100 words why your group is so unique - even send us photos. Whatever your tale, we want to show the best on both our website and during our forthcoming ‘Up for Arts?’ campaign, with events happening across the country in July and August 2007.

Send them your stories to: info@vaengland.org.uk

Sign a petition on the No 10 website to oppose funding cuts

Sign up to the Downing St Petition site to voice your views about the loss of good causes funding to the Olympics. A petition site has been created at:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/lotteryolympics

Why not add your name to the growing list of people who are deeply concerned about the loss of good causes lottery funding? Many amateur theatre groups have benefited from lottery funding, and the shift of funding to the Olympics means there will be less money available in the future.

                                Community RePaint

Last year Community RePaint collected 240,000 litres of paint across its network of 64 paint reuse projects which is available to all in the community and voluntary sector. This paint is available (often for a small donation or even sometimes free) to as many of these people as possible.

Previous organisations have used paint for:

• Village halls
• Theatre and art groups
• Community 'drop in' centres

There are not Community RePaint schemes in every area but schemes will often donate paint outside their local area.

For a list of projects and where paint can be obtained from visit www.communityrepaint.org.uk
