March 2008 Newsletter
Have YOU got what it takes to be a voice over artist? Here at NODA, we’re currently embarking on a series of educational DVD’s in conjunction with The University of Hertfordshire at Hatfield. The first in the series has already been filmed - The NODA guide to Wigs, and is currently being edited. Most of the footage already contains the voice of the presenter but we’re looking for someone with experience of voice over work to fill in with scripted links and introductions etc. and would like to open the invitation exclusively to NODA members. We are also looking for commitment, as we would like the same voice to be present on all of the DVD’s we’re planning to produce during the next two years (approximately six) You will need to be able to travel to The University in Hatfield where the editing and voice over work will take place in their film & Media studios. We will of course remunerate all travel expenses incurred. So! If you’ve got what it takes, contact Dale Freeman at NODA HQ with a view to sending in samples of previous voice over work and to discuss further. Based on the novel by Baroness Orczy, the action is set in the time of the French Revolution and the plot unfolds with treachery, romance and comedy, climaxing in a dramatic swordfight – But how does the story end? Come and join BOST for an evening not to be missed at Broadway’s most intriguing musical! Guide to Plays for Performance NHB is very proud to announce their free Guide to Plays for Performance, which celebrates its first anniversary this March!
The Guide has been designed in a user-friendly format, it is kept deliberately loose-leaf, with one sheet per play, and offers detailed information on each play, including an extract, a plot summary, cast and staging details, first production details, press reaction, and other play suggestions should the play in question not be quite right. NHB send out the first Guide in a folder by post, and email quarterly updates of ten plays each, so that the Guide can always be kept completely up to date.

Action for Children's Arts The UK's only umbrella body speaking for all arts organisations involved in providing arts for and with children - welcomes the recent announcement by the government that it wants to ensure all school children experience 5 hours of high culture every week. ACA have just embarked on a huge nationwide consultation project with arts practitioners, arts organisations and children themselves to produce a Children's Arts Manifesto which will be launched at its annual conference on 21 July. The manifesto will set out what ACA believes we need to do to give children in the UK more access to the arts and it will be a call to action for everyone who believes in the transforming power of the imagination in children’s lives.
The manifesto will be unique in that it will be based largely on what children say – ACA have commissioned Dr Vicky Cave to run a series of workshops with children in different parts of the country to explore with them the place that the arts have in their lives – and on the views of adults who care about the arts for children. ACA welcome input from everyone as to what they think about the state of children’s arts today and what our priorities should be for the future - have your say by filling in the questionnaire at the ACA website www.childrensarts.org.uk
ACA Chairman, leading children's playwright, David Wood , is available for interview on ACA's reaction to the government's new policy & the Children's Arts Manifesto. ACA is dedicated to the promotion, development and celebration of all the creative and performing arts for and with children, aged 0 - 12 years.
