PIRATES KICK OFF FREE THEATRE IN LEEDS The Carriageworks is throwing its doors wide open for a free day of events on February 16 as part of ‘A Night Less Ordinary’. ‘A Night Less Ordinary’ is an Arts Council England scheme, supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, to get more young people into theatres across the country. The £2.5 million scheme will provide 618,000 free theatre tickets to anyone under 26 in more than 200 venues across England, between February 2009 and March 2011 The Carriageworks is giving the opportunity to 13-26 year olds to participate in theatre workshops, see the hilarious Potted Pirates, meet the cast after the performance and get a backstage tour – all for free! The event will see workshops on making scenery, props and theatrical role play to get an idea of what it’s like to work in a theatre. Participants will then see Potted Pirates for free – with delightful double act Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner telling tall tales of the seven seas, from Long John Silver to Blackbeard. They also promise a full-scale re-enactment of the Spanish Armada! And the completely free experience concludes with an opportunity to meet the cast from Potted Pirates and a back stage tour of The Carriageworks. For more information on The Carriageworks, or to book tickets visit www.carriageworkstheatre.org.uk or call 0113 224 3801.

The Small Charities Coalition is a relatively new charity, that exists to help small charities access the skills, experience and resources they need to achieve their aims. The coalition does this by matching small charities to other organisations that have the resources they need.
The service is free to small charities, as long as they are a registered charity, have an annual income of less than £1 million and are prepared to provide 24 hours staff time to share their skills and experience with other small charities. Among other things the coalition aims to bridge the gap between large and small charities by underpinning their support with support from large charities. They already have the likes of Oxfam, British Red Cross and Shelter on board. For more information visit their newly launched website - www.smallcharities.org.uk The 5th International Festival of Making Theater
